After spending some time in Critical HQ thinking of ways we can help charitable organisations, we’ve recently announced an initiative to support local foodbanks in cities where we host Critical Sound events.
The campaign was successfully launched at our Lakota show in Bristol this January where guests were encouraged to bring food donations to deposit before entering the venue. All food collected has now been donated to the East Bristol Foodbank.
Working alongside Trussell Trust, a network of foodbanks across the UK, we will continue collections at select future events, including our London show at Studio 338 in February.
We want to say a special thank you for the support this initiative has received. We were really blown away by the number of donations we received at Lakota and hope to see even more at Studio 338.

Comments Off on Kasra – Essential Mix – BBC Radio 1
On Friday July 20th 2019 Kasra’s Essential Mix was aired on BBC Radio 1.
It was a real honour to be asked to contribute to the Essential Mix series, and I wanted to do the opportunity justice by putting together a mix that represents what is important to me about this music. Over the 2 hours there’s the tunes that got me into DNB, some of my favourite Critical classics from across the years as well as a lot of what makes up my DJ sets in 2019, which includes alot of unreleased music! I’m excited to hear what people think, to me its an honest snapshot of exciting underground drum and bass in 2019.Kasra
Comments Off on Introducing Fade Black, formally known as Shyun & Cruk
Over the last 3 years the names Shyun & Cruk have become synonymous with some of the most future-thinking drum & bass to have emerged from the new wave of producers breaking throughout the scene.
Progressing from early releases on more fledgling labels it was in 2017 that Critical first picked up on their emerging talents, releasing music on the Binary and Systems series and solo releases on Critical itself. Culminating in their huge collaborative ‘See It Our Way’ EP released in February this year, Andy & Nick have now taken the decision to combine their skills to form a new allegiance; introducing Fade Black, formally known as Shyun & Cruk.
“We just enjoy making tunes together, and feel we do it better with a couple beers and a bit of banter in the studio, so after much talk, we decided we wanna do this music thing together.
But this doesn’t mean compromise in any way, we’re working smarter and faster than ever before and are going to be bringing you the best blend of both our styles in this new project, more future and forward thinking than we’ve ever been.” – Fade Black 2019
To celebrate their brand new project Fade Black are giving away their epic new track ‘Unknown’. Listen below or click here to get it.
